Ecocity world summit 2011

The Ecocity World Summit 2011 will take place at the Palais des Congrès de Montréal between August 22nd and 26th. More than 1,500 participants from 50 countries are expected to attend this high-calibre event, which will be the first to take place in a northern city. It will be a great opportunity for Montreal to stand out internationally, and to benefit from the experiences of other cities around the world.
Ecocity 2011 is the 9th edition of a series of international conferences organized since 1990, based on the theme of an ecological city. This multi-disciplinary event targets professionals in the engineering, transport, architecture, urbanism, environment and many other related sectors.
Since it is important for engineers to be present, the RéseauIQ is committed to making this event a success, by helping organize and promote the summit.
The summit will focus on several themes:
1. The links between climate change and urban planning
2. Urban eco-mobility, the planning and design of public spaces, streets and green areas
3. Governance and democracy in an eco-city
4. The urban economy in an eco-city
5. Buildings and health
6. Biodiversity
Each theme will be dealt with in a series of conferences, panels, workshops, exhibitions and technical visits led by recognized international experts and designed to meet the needs of groups ranging from professionals to the general public.
Engineers, architects, urban planners, sociologists, geographers and professionals from the fields of health care, the environment, urban intervention organizations, citizens’ groups, research centers, ministries and political organizations from around the world, will be called upon to share their expertise.
RéseauIQ thus invites engineers to take part in this summit in large numbers to showcase Québec’s engineering knowledge and know-how in the field of sustainable development in urban areas.
