The Réseau des ingénieurs du Québec is proud to be a partner of the Rendez-vous de l’énergie, organized by 16 regional environmental councils, jointly with the Institut du Nouveau Monde (INM).

This vast public consultation will allow citizens from every region to engage in discussions on Québec’s future energy systems.


Quebec is dependant to petroleum products
The Rendez-vous de l’énergie, with the theme Imaginons le Québec sans pétrole (Imagining Québec without Oil), are offering to stimulate the debate on the urgency of reducing oil consumption everywhere throughout Québec and to increase its energy self-sufficiency.

Our energy consumption is constituted by 40% of petroleum products and 40 % of hydraulic power. But Quebec is giving away billions of dollars to foreign markets for the crude oil supply.
Petroleum products utilization has a direct impact on the environment, the society and the economy (urban density, loss of agricultural land, pollution, climate changes and public health).

Many consulting activities will take place until January 2011 throughout the entire province. These activities are intended to the general public, the socio-economic actors and the decision-makers. A reference workbook is intented to inform of the world tendencies in petroleum production and consumption, with a description of economical, social and environmental impacts associated with the petroleum consumption in Quebec.

The recommendations resulting from these consultations will be discussed at a provincial forum at mid 2011.


The participation of engineers
The RéseauIQ firmly believes that engineers have a key role to play in taking on Québec’s energy challenges, and that engineers contribute in a proactive and objective way to major debates, while taking into account Québec’s economic development and social climate. This is why we are taking part in the Rendez-vous!

Launch of the campaign in the Bas-Saint-Laurent

On november the 23rd, 2010, the RéseauIQ took part in the conference of the Rendez-vous de l'énergie at Saint-Charles-Borromée (Joliette).

RéseauIQ is proud to take part to this forum, taking place in St-Jérome, on January the 27th. The organisation will present many propositions to engage Québec towards sustainable mobility.
