Biographies

Étienne Couture, Eng.

President

Mr. Couture was re-elected President of the RéseauIQ in 2011 - he also held the position from 2006 to 2009. Etienne Couture has been a member of the Executive Committee for eight terms since acceding to the Board of Directors in June 2003, having also been Treasurer and Vice-President, for two terms respectively.

Mr. Couture is a recognized performance specialist and head of the EC3-Coach.com firm which he founded in 1999. After earning engineering and international business degrees, he pursued more advanced studies in coaching and performance. This expertise has enabled him to meet the growing needs of managers and professionals looking to quickly surpass their work objectives and achieve personal success in today's competitive society.

Etienne Couture graduated from Université Laval in 1993 with a mechanical engineering degree and a major in aeronautics. He has worked as an aluminum-processing engineer in the automotive industry.

Mr. Couture is an accomplished swimmer and former captain of the “Rouge et Or” team at Université Laval, where he successfully combined the demands of engineering studies with the discipline of high-level sports training. He is now married and has two children.

Yves Lavoie, Eng.

Vice-President

As President of the Réseau des ingénieurs du Québec since 2010, and having served as administrator in 2006 and 2009, Mr. Lavoie has spent much time reflecting on the socio-economic conditions of engineers. He is also a member of the Ad Hoc Integration Committee, the Governance Committee and the Committee to Support the Socio-Economic Interests of Engineers, and has actively contributed to the development of the organization’s public affairs mission as well as its stand on issues of concern to the profession.

Mr. Lavoie has served as administrator for various organizations, such as the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec from 2006 to 2009, the Sorel-Tracy Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry from 2005 to 2008, and the Technocentre in Industrial Ecology since 2006. He also presided over the OIQ Richelieu region for six years.

With more than 30 years experience in management and development of technological projects, Mr. Lavoie is an active contributor to regional growth in the Montérégie, where he currently heads two companies specialized in business management and development and in financial, commercial and HR management.

David Rioux, Eng.

Treasurer

Having obtained his degree in Engineering at Université Laval in 1996, David Rioux also has a Master's degree in Industrial Engineering.

He is currently Senior Team Leader at Ernst & Young Consulting Services, where he is specializing mainly in improving operational performance. In recent years, he has devoted the major part of his time to implementing best business practices, in order to enable clients to reach high levels of effectiveness. The list of the many companies where he has worked includes Canadian and U.S. companies such as Pratt & Whitney Canada, Kraft, Alcan, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Smith & Nephew and Aveos.

Before joining Ernst & Young, Mr. Rioux held various consulting and operational management positions.

Louis Cloutier, ing.

Secretary

A graduate of mechanical engineering from Université Laval in 1994, he also holds a Master's in pulp and paper from McGill University and an MBA in business management from Université Laval.

He is currently the Mechanical Projects Director for IME Experts where he is in charge of the industrial division and business development. His concern for operational efficiency and continued improvement means he is able to find innovative solutions and optimize processes. He has developed the machine health and safety dossier and has provided training in operational dynamics and production.

Over the years, he has developed several operational budgets as both an administrator and a consultant. He is an efficient and innovative manager who is able to motivate and coach teams in the accomplishment of their business goals.

His work experience throughout Quebec has equipped him with an excellent knowledge of the needs of engineers and the problems faced by technical labourers in regional areas.

Robert Carrière, Eng.

Director

Having obtained a degree in electrical engineering in 1972 from École Polytechnique, Robert Carrière then obtained an MBA from McGill in 1975.

His career started at General Electric of Canada, and he then joined Hydro-Québec, where he was a Specialized Consultant in Economic Research. Because of his experience and interests, he chose to focus on SMEs. Throughout his career he has held many management positions in various industries. He was Director General at Froid National, Vice-President of Operations for Cheminées Sécurité ltée., President and General Manager for Pega Precision Inc. and lastly Business Development Manager for Pega Medical inc., a position he still holds today.

A shareholder in all the companies where he was a manager, his greatest success was to significantly expand the size of Pega Precision inc. which became, among other things, a preferred supplier of Bombardier Aerospace.
As M. Carrière would like to contribute to the growth of RéseauIQ, he has decided to get involved proactively by becoming its Treasurer.

Karine Bénazera, Eng.

Director

Karine Benazera graduated from Université du Québec à Chicoutimi in 1995 with a degree in mechanical engineering. In 2010, she joined BBA’s project management team as the manager and coordinator of multidisciplinary projects. Ms. Benazera is a woman driven by action and commitment, who combines enthusiasm, efficiency and tireless dedication to reach goals and achieve excellent results. She is fluent in English, Spanish and French and loves a good challenge. She has solid analytical and critical thinking skills, a deep sense of organization and planning, and works well in a team; in short, all the qualities needed in a good director.

Ms. Benazera has more than 15 years of experience in engineering and management. She has worked in various capacities, such as in consulting engineering at CEM Consultants and at Hatch, in technical representation at Kinecor and as a teacher for the mechanical engineering diploma program at CÉGEP de Sorel-Tracy.

Her commitment to furthering the profession is reflected through her involvement, first serving as president of the OIQ Manicouagan for three years, and now as a member of the Réseau des ingénieurs du Québec Board of Directors since 2010

Nathalie Gannon, Eng.

Director
Ms. Gannon gained much of her experience and know-how as an aeronautical engineer at Pratt & Whitney Canada. For ten years, in addition to assembling experimental engines for testing, modelling and thermodynamic performance analysis, she acquired skills for fostering a culture of genuine leadership based on integrity, creativity, surpassing oneself, authenticity and teamwork.

Since 2006, she has been the President of Summum Coaching. Nathalie is a certified personal and professional coach who develops the talent of others using the knowledge and expertise she learned over the course of her many mandates. She helps enrich management and leadership skills and fosters team building in order to instil the vision and mission that she helped to develop. In addition, she facilitates the introduction of a participatory organizational structure that is responsible, autonomous and effective, to support the work of managers in developing a corporate vision and executing a corporate mission.

François P. Granger, Eng. & chimiste, Ph. D.

Director

Administrator since June 2003, he was Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary before becoming RéseauIQ President at the 2009 AGM.

A volunteer since 1968 with cooperatives and non-profit organizations, he has been president of the Graduate Students Association of the École Polytechnique, president of the Caisse populaire du campus de l'Université de Montréal, president of the High-Tech Table of the Outaouais Summit and meeting chairman for the Association acadienne de l’Outaouais. He is currently chair of the Review Committee of the Ordre des chimistes.

An OIQ stalwart since 1984, he has been President of the Plein-Sud Regional Section, Director of Communications for the Outaouais Regional Section, and Vice President of the OIQ.

He has a Ph.D. from the École Polytechnique, a degree in engineering from the ENSI de Mulhouse and is a graduate of Ottawa, Montréal, Haut-Rhin, Strasbourg and Montpellier universities in computer science, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and law.He also has securities and personal insurance credentials.

He has worked in technology transfer since 1975 (Polytechnique, CDT, CRSNG, SEREQ, CQRDA, CETM, Alfotech, Valotech, RCT), as a scientific advisor and expert in tax incentives for scientific research and experimental development.

Berg Hovsepyan, Eng.

Director

Graduating in electronic engineering from McGill University in 1973, he began working the same year as a micro and mini computer designer at Comterm. Subsequently he worked at AES Data, developing the « Remote batch terminal » and « Editeur de textes multi-usage » products. In 1984, he became vice-president of engineering at Peak Surveillance Control, specialists in developing industrial control products in the energy field. Since 1988, he has been working in the defence division of CMC (Canadian Marconi Company), which is now called Ultra Electronics, as international project manager for the development of communication products in the military field.

A member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) since 1976, he was also the Ultra Electronics company spokesperson on the executive committee for engineers and scientists from 2003 to 2011.

Mirna Ikke, Jr. Eng.

Director

Ms. Ikke earned her diploma in Computer Engineering from École Polytechnique in 2002. She also has a Master's in Industrial Engineering, Technological Project Management. She currently works for CMC Electronics, formerly Marconi Canada, a company that designs and manufactures technologically advanced electronic products for the aviation and international positioning markets. Ms. Ikke contributes to the different phases of development and design of a cockpit flight management system with multiple-receiver navigation capabilities.

Before joining CMC, she held several technical software development positions and worked in international project management.

Michèle Raymond, Eng. MBA

Director
In addition to earning an industrial engineering degree from École Polytechnique in 1979, Michèle Raymond holds an MBA in international marketing from McGill University.

Ms. Raymond has a solid understanding of the industrial issues of every level of the distribution chain, as well as wide-ranging experience in marketing, particularly in the area of strategic positioning. As a professional with outstanding abilities in communications, problem-solving and team motivation, Ms. Raymond knows how to optimize costs, quality, schedules and human resources as part of project management.

Ms. Raymond has been the Vice-President of Communications and Strategic Development at Uni-Sélect, one North America’s largest distributors of auto parts, and in charge of marketing at Frisco Bay, Nordx/ CDT, Domtar and Gaz Métropolitain.

She has completed four out of the five training modules at the Collège des Admistrateurs de sociétés and will take the exams required to obtain her certification in February 2012.

Isabelle Rivard, Eng.

Isabelle Rivard graduated from Université de Sherbrooke in 2000 with a degree in electrical engineering. She now works in Quebec City on the ÉnerCible team (a division of S.N.C. Lavalin) for the Hydro-Québec Buildings Program.  Specifically, she handles commercialisation, development and awareness-raising for Quebec businesses and institutions so they can incorporate energy efficiency into their construction projects. She is the institutional sector account-manager for Eastern Quebec and in charge of the education sector for the entire province. Her career path has allowed her to work in several areas of electrical engineering. In recent years, she has specialized in construction, project management and sustainable development.

She has been involved in the Réseau IQ group for the last few years and has been active in the Eastern Townships for the OIQ and various other organizations for many years. She is a dedicated person who works tirelessly for the development of her profession.

As a mother of three, she also believes that the challenges of balancing professional and personal commitments should be a top priority for the RéseauIQ.
