Energy: It’s our Business!

Québec has all it needs to become a major, ultra competitive player in terms of energy choices, as was repeated many times at the World Energy Congress. Moreover, the people of Québec are concerned that Québec consumes too much energy.

With this in mind, on Tuesday the Réseau des ingénieurs du Québec revealed its proposal for the creation of the Fonds national d’efficacité énergétique  (FNEE). This Fund would  increase the chances that Québec meet its targets for energy savings and greenhouse gas reduction, in addition to developing an energy efficient industry. This proposal, already started in 2009 as part of the RéseauIQ study entitled « Le développement énergétique du Québec dans un contexte de développement durable », is founded on the model of a fund that would grant loand to the large energy consumers such as industries, commerces and institutions, to stimulate their investments in energy efficiency. The Fund could finance itself through the reimbursement of loans granted thanks to the energy saved.

Along the same lines, the RéseauIQ is pleased to be participating in the extensive public consultation campaign for the Rendez-vous de l’énergie, which proposes finding viable alternatives to Québec’s fuel dependency, so that it can direct its efforts toward greater energy efficiency. This campaign, organized by the Regroupement national des Conseils régionaux de l’environnement du Québec (RNCREQ) in partnership with the Institut du Nouveau Monde (INM), is of particular importance for today’s Québec and calls on engineers to draw on their expertise to contribute to the discussion on the energy choices of the Québec of tomorrow.
