Steering Québec Towards Sustainable Mobility!

Dear Members,

Today, the Réseau des ingénieurs du Québec made public a selection of proposals Steering Québec towards Sustainable Mobility, which include various solutions to transform Québec’s ground transportation network. Designed for the government, this work includes a series of recommendations in which engineers will play a key role.

The Réseau des ingénieurs du Québec had already addressed these concerns in its Québec Energy Development Study, which detailed several issues regarding energy efficiency, transportation optimization and the use of biofuels.

The remarks outlined in the brief made public today deal mainly with the decrease in oil consumption in transportation in Québec as well as support for the electric vehicles sector and second generation biofuels.

The purpose of these recommendations is to provide an overview of actions to be taken, while realizing that the development of any policy will obviously require open dialogue among various industries, municipalities, institutions and social groups.

Nonetheless, government economic support must be increased, and an ambitious strategy for sustainable mobility must be developed to enable Québec to reduce its energy consumption and dependence on oil.

We believe that Québec has the tools necessary to meet these challenges and, with the support of its engineers, can help Steer Québec Towards Sustainable Mobility!
