Le RéseauIQ Visits Quebec City

April 2008
Etienne Couture, Eng.

On Wednesday, April 9, I had the immense pleasure of meeting with engineers from the Quebec City area during a dinner-conference at the Hilton Quebec City hotel, as part of our fact-finding tour on the future of the industrial sector. The main goal of this event was to present highlights from the study we made public last October on how to equip the industrial sector to meet the challenges of globalization.

These regional get-togethers are very important to us because they allow us to meet with engineers at a grassroots level and discuss the issues explored in our study, i.e. innovation, investment and productivity. They also give us an opportunity to find out about your daily experiences, which, in turn, enhances our work. As we have pointed out in the past, engineers have front-row seats to current industrial transformations and their impact. That's why it's so essential for us to be in regular contact with all of you.

Throughout the evening, many topics were discussed, including corporate management culture, the evolution of business models, the importance of added value, promoting engineering as a career choice for young people, and getting more involvement from engineers in different facets of daily life. We believe that your presence in various local organizations would make a huge difference in this respect.

We have three stops left to make, in the Saguenay, Mauricie and Greater Montreal regions. You're invited to join us and share your views. Your opinions and your participation are of utmost interest to us.

See you there!
